Listen to Cool Bass

July 10, 2008 · 2 Comments

I have been listening to The Tom Warrington’s Trio CD Titled “Back Nine” on Jazz Compass.

Click to see Back Nine song list

Click to see Back Nine song list.

Larry Koonse – guitar
Joe La Barbera – drums
Tom Warrington – bass

There is a lot to listen to, but I really like the song “Nardis” (Miles Davis). “Nardis” is a duet between Joe La Barbera and Tom Warrington. I only listened to the beginning of the song at first so that I could get an idea of what the head sounded like. After I felt like I could recognize the main part of the melody, I listened to the drums. It’s cool to hear Joe La Barbera’s interpretation of the melody.

Tom Warrington will be playing in the Joe La Barbera Quintet on July 31st at Charlie O’s in the city of Van Nuys (California).

Flatwounds on a Fender Jazz Bass

November 7, 2007 · Leave a Comment

Take a look at the new strings. These Rotosound RS77LD Jazz Bass Strings were recommended by Greg at World of Stings. Thanks Greg.

Click on the pictures to get a better look.

FlatFlat 2

The feel is better than the round wounds that I had before. There is more high-end (twang) in the Rotosound strings. I like to dip out the high end with the bass’s EQ though.

Mmmm bottom….

New Jazz Bass Setup

November 1, 2007 · Leave a Comment

I just got my Fender Deluxe Jazz bass setup. There were some minor adjustments and I had some flatwound strings put on. I tell you more about it when I have some pictures to share.

Pictures make things a little more interesting.

Have a safe Halloween.
